A Decade of Impact: Milestones That Shaped AIMS-Cameroon<\/h1>\n

Over the past decade, AIMS-Cameroon has grown from an ambitious idea into a powerful force for transformation in science, education, and research. From its inaugural day in 2013 to its latest academic innovations in 2025, each milestone reflects a commitment to excellence, regional relevance, and sustainable impact.<\/p>\n\n

\n

2013 \u2013 AIMS Arrives in Central Africa<\/h2>\n

What happened:<\/span> On 7 October, the AIMS-Cameroon Centre of Excellence officially opened its doors in Limbe.<\/p>\n

Why it matters:<\/span> This historic event made Cameroon the fourth node in the AIMS network and the very first in Central Africa.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n\n

\n

2014 \u2013 First Graduates, First Proof of Concept<\/h2>\n

What happened:<\/span> The first cohort of 36 students from 14 African countries graduated on 10 July 2014.<\/p>\n

Why it matters:<\/span> It validated AIMS’ innovative 10-month intensive master’s model as viable in the Central African context.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n\n

2016 \u2013 Investing in Future Generations<\/h2>\n

What happened:<\/span> The Teacher Training Programme (TTP), launched in partnership with Mastercard Foundation, kicked off.<\/p>\n

Why it matters:<\/span> This expanded AIMS-Cameroon\u2019s impact beyond postgraduate education to secondary-school mathematics pedagogy across the country.<\/p>\n\n

What happened:<\/span> A fully equipped Teacher Training Laboratory (TTL) was inaugurated in Yaound\u00e9 at HTTC.<\/p>\n

Why it matters:<\/span> It gave the TTP a permanent and technologically advanced hub to host workshops and strengthen teacher capacity nationwide.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n\n

2017 \u2013 Bridging Academia and Industry<\/h2>\n

What happened:<\/span> The Cooperative Master\u2019s Programme was launched, with its first 11 graduates celebrated in February 2019.<\/p>\n

Why it matters:<\/span> This new work-integrated model fostered stronger links between mathematics education and industry.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n\n

2018 \u2013 Expanding to the Far North<\/h2>\n

What happened:<\/span> A new TTL was inaugurated at HTTC Maroua (Kongola).<\/p>\n

Why it matters:<\/span> This move extended quality teacher training to the Far North and bordering regions, including Adamawa and parts of Chad.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n\n

2020 \u2013 A Year of Transformation<\/h2>\n

What happened:<\/span> A TTL opened at the University of Buea, the first in the Anglophone region.<\/p>\n

Why it matters:<\/span> It empowered teachers in the Southwest and Littoral regions with modern training facilities.<\/p>\n\n

What happened:<\/span> A new on-site research centre was launched.<\/p>\n

Why it matters:<\/span> It began hosting workshops for early-career researchers and attracted international scholars.<\/p>\n\n

What happened:<\/span> AIMS-Cameroon introduced three new degree tracks: data science, climate science, and fundamental science.<\/p>\n

Why it matters:<\/span> These fields aligned student learning with emerging sectors and boosted employability and societal impact.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n\n

2022 \u2013 Strengthening Partnerships and Outreach<\/h2>\n

What happened:<\/span> A new TTL opened in Bamenda (Bambili), the second in the Anglophone region.<\/p>\n

Why it matters:<\/span> It expanded teacher-training outreach to the Northwest and surrounding communities.<\/p>\n\n

What happened:<\/span> Two visits from Canada\u2019s High Commissioner to Cameroon celebrated AIMS-Canada ties.<\/p>\n

Why it matters:<\/span> These visits highlighted Canada\u2019s crucial support in growing AIMS and sustaining its mission.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n\n

\n

2024 \u2013 Pioneering the Quantum Frontier<\/h2>\n

What happened:<\/span> A fourth academic stream\u2014quantum science\u2014was added to the structured master\u2019s programme.<\/p>\n

Why it matters:<\/span> It positioned AIMS-Cameroon to train talent for Africa\u2019s emerging quantum-tech sector.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n\n

2025 \u2013 Tackling Public Health with Mathematics<\/h2>\n

What happened:<\/span> A new 18-month co-operative Master\u2019s in mathematical epidemiology was launched in partnership with AIMS-Rwanda.<\/p>\n

Why it matters:<\/span> This step prepares modellers to address Africa\u2019s public-health challenges and strengthens epidemic preparedness.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n\n

Alumni Impact \u2013 A Legacy in Motion<\/h2>\n

What happened:<\/span> To date, AIMS-Cameroon has graduated 557 students\u201437.52% of them women\u2014representing 28 African countries.<\/p>\n
