The day aimed to strengthen public awareness, promote solidarity, renew commitments, and draw attention to challenges faced by science and raise support. The theme of this year\u2019s celebration was \u201cBuilding Climate-ready Communities\u201d. This theme comes at a time when the world is faced with a global climate challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"766\" src=\"https:\/\/aims-cameroon.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2021\/11\/WSD-3-1024x766.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6069\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aims-cameroon.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2021\/11\/WSD-3-1024x766.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/aims-cameroon.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2021\/11\/WSD-3-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/aims-cameroon.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2021\/11\/WSD-3-768x575.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/aims-cameroon.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2021\/11\/WSD-3-16x12.jpeg 16w, https:\/\/aims-cameroon.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2021\/11\/WSD-3.jpeg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption><strong> About 300 students were drilled on climate change and its effects<\/strong> <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Keeping with the AIMS \u201cGive-Back\u201d culture, the Science Catalysis association led by Nkuiate Harris Sop, an AIMS alumnus from the Climate Science stream, joined the rest of the world to spread, organize and connect with the public on Science Day. The day was celebrated in collaboration with the Environmental Science Students Association (ESSA) at the University of Buea, and Words Bridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"766\" src=\"https:\/\/aims-cameroon.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2021\/11\/WSD-2-1024x766.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6068\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aims-cameroon.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2021\/11\/WSD-2-1024x766.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/aims-cameroon.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2021\/11\/WSD-2-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/aims-cameroon.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2021\/11\/WSD-2-768x575.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/aims-cameroon.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2021\/11\/WSD-2-16x12.jpeg 16w, https:\/\/aims-cameroon.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2021\/11\/WSD-2.jpeg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption><strong>About 10 passionate students attended the talk on Science Advocacy and were taught the importance of advocating for science and how to advocate. <\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Activities carried out at the secondary school level included an Essay writing contest on, \u201cScience and Peace,\u201d and an awareness campaign of, \u201cClimate Change: Causes, Effects, and Mitigation\/Adaption.\u201d The writing contest received essays from Inter Comprehensive High School, Buea, and Lyc\u00e9e Bilingue de Koutaba. The winners of this competition will be awarded cash prizes. \u00a0Meanwhile, about 10 passionate students attended the talk on Science Advocacy and were taught the importance of advocating for science and how to advocate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The awareness campaign took place at Summerset Bilingual College in Buea, and the classes targeted were Lower Sixth Arts and Upper Sixth Science. About 300 students were drilled on climate change and its effects. The students were receptive and asked fascinating questions like, \u201chow can inorganic waste be properly disposed of\u201d, among others.
