Bakhit Mohammed Idris Alaa

Sudan

Taught Masters, 2017/2018

While at AIMS, Bakhit Mohammed Idris Alaa described radio interferometric imaging arrays and aperture synthesis using mathematical models to show that the data measured by a radio interferometer arrays is the Fourier transform of the true sky convolved with the radio interferometer arrays point spread function. She confirmed her mathematical predictions using the Jansky Very Large Array.

After AIMS, Alaa obtained a master’s degree in condensed matter physics from the East African Institute for Fundamental Research (ICTP-EAIFR), University of Rwanda. She is currently a third year PhD student at the University of the Basque Country, working in the Material Physics Center (MPC) in Donostia-San Sebastian, Spain. Her PhD project is focused on the growth of 2D materials hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) on different curve crystal substrates, studying the structure and electronic properties using experimental techniques and theoretical methods.
