Jean Michel MUSAMBI

Burundi

Taught Masters, 2015/2016

Jean Michel’s journey towards success began in Cameroon when he joined the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS). Little did he know that this decision would lay the foundation for an extraordinary path that led him to achieve great things. While at AIMS, Jean Michel described the process of macroscopic quantum tunneling in a Bose-Einstein condensate trapped in a double-well potential creating a two-state configuration in an N-boson system. Particularly, he studied the system dynamics by solving both analytically and numerically the Gross-Pitaevskii equation with double-well potential driven by an external field.

Inspired by his time at AIMS, Jean Michel ventured to Algeria to pursue a master’s degree in Energy Engineering at the renowned Pan African University Institute of Water and Energy Sciences (PAUWES) in Algeria. There, he was exposed to cutting-edge knowledge and practical experiences that ignited a passion for clean and sustainable energy solutions within him.

His journey was not without its fair share of obstacles. After completing my master’s degree, he found himself facing a daunting period of struggle to secure a job in his chosen field. The energy industry seemed impenetrable, with fierce competition and limited opportunities. However, fueled by determination and a burning desire to make a difference, he refused to succumb to discouragement.

It was during this period that he decided to broaden my horizons and explore other avenues. Jean Michel seized the opportunity to expand his knowledge and skills by joining the prestigious École Normale Supérieure (ENS) in Burundi. For two years, he immersed himself in the world of electrical engineering, acquiring invaluable expertise and real-world experience. This incredible journey transformed him, instilling confidence and resilience that he never knew he possessed.

It was precisely during his time at ENS that he discovered his passion for teaching. As he delved deep into the complexities of mathematics and physics, fueling his insatiable thirst for knowledge, he realized the immense joy brought by sharing this knowledge with others. Recognizing the profound impact a great teacher can have on young minds, he knew he had found his calling.

His present position at École Belge as a physics and mathematics teacher is a testament to his unwavering pursuit of his dreams. Every day, he steps into the classroom armed with enthusiasm and a dedication to nurturing the minds of his students. “Seeing their eyes light up with understanding and witnessing their achievements fills me with a sense of fulfillment that words cannot adequately express”,he says.

Jean Michel’s journey from the struggle to get a job to becoming a teacher has taught him that success is not defined solely by the job title one attains. It is the culmination of one’s determination, commitment, and the ability to adapt and grow when faced with adversity. “I am immensely grateful for the challenges I faced along the way, as they shaped me into the individual I am today”, he says.

As he continues to ignite the spark of curiosity and knowledge in the hearts of his students, he is confident that his success story is far from over. He remains committed to making a difference and empowering the next generation to embrace their potential and contribute to a brighter future.
