We are excited to kick off the sixth edition of our Science Communications Challenge today June 11th! This annual event is designed to enhance our students’ ability to communicate complex technical knowledge to non-technical stakeholders, ultimately boosting the influence of mathematical sciences in decision-making processes.
With this challenge, students are tasked to present in basic English, the content of their AIMS dissertation to a non-technical panel in not more than three minutes. The presentations are assessed for amongst other things, clarity, ability to keep the audience engaged as well as time and stage management.
At AIMS, we believe that effective science communication is essential for transforming groundbreaking research into actionable insights that can drive policy and societal progress.
Over the years, women have excelled in this challenge, winning four out of the last five editions, resulting in a consolatory fourth price for top male students in the second and third editions. This year, the stage is yet again set for all our students, and the betting men are churning out theories of what makes a great talker great.
This challenge outside the fact that it helps breath life into our campus, it hold significant strategic value for us. As a matter of fact, the challenge helps us to:
- Enhance Communication Skills: Empower students to articulate complex scientific concepts clearly and engagingly.
- Promote Public Engagement: Foster a culture of dialogue around scientific research and its societal benefits.
- Influence Decision Making: Highlight the importance of mathematical sciences in shaping policies and strategic decisions.
Join us in celebrating the incredible talent and dedication of our young mathematical scientists. Together, we can advance the frontiers of knowledge and ensure that the power of mathematical sciences is harnessed for the greater good.
Stay tuned for exciting updates!
