Kigali, March 28, 2025 – The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) and AKADEMIYA2063 have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote evidence-based research, innovation, and technologies that support Africa’s development aspirations.
The newly established partnership will foster collaboration across key areas such as climate science, energy, nutrition and health, agrifood systems transformation, and other emerging topics critical to Africa’s future. Both institutions aim to generate joint research, publications, and data-driven policy analysis that shape transformative solutions for the continent.
“AIMS remains committed to its vision of a prosperous Africa, propelled by innovative education and science. This partnership with AKADEMIYA2063 is timely and will play a critical role in the achievement of our mission,” said Prof Sam Yala, AIMS Network President.
Through this partnership, AIMS and AKADEMIYA2063 will collaborate on:
- Cutting-edge research leveraging machine learning and satellite remote sensing data
- Capacity building initiatives and knowledge exchange
- Internship and hands-on opportunities for AIMS students
- Outreach, joint fundraising, and technical publications
- Policy-relevant data analytics that support Africa’s transformation goals

This MoU marks a significant milestone in aligning academic excellence, research, and innovation with the goals of Agenda 2063 – the African Union’s blueprint for inclusive and sustainable development across the continent.
