Tutoring at AIMS centers is a fantastic opportunity to meet and work closely with highly-respected scientists from around the world, as well as brilliant and highly motivated students from across Africa. Students coming to AIMS have strong backgrounds in the mathematical sciences (including pure and applied mathematics, physics, computer science, mathematical biology, and other fields).
While outstanding visiting lecturers are recruited from all over the world to teach and prepare students for advanced postgraduate research, the courses are unusually broad in scope and employ the latest pedagogical methods to stimulate critical and creative thinking. Each center offers a tutoring Fellowship to facilitate student participation and follow-up which permits post-doc and doctorate researchers to work as dedicated teaching assistants, with the responsibility of providing capacity building for the students 24/7. The unique residential character of the institute allows for maximum interaction between students and tutors in a harmonious environment at all hours.
Since 2018, AIMS Cameroon has hired tutors from several countries.
- 2018-2019 Academic Year: 10 Tutors (four women) from Cameroon, Ethiopia, Ghana and Lebanon.
- 2019-2020 Academic Year: Nine Tutors (three women) from Cameroon, Central African Republic, Ethiopia and Ghana.
- 2020-2021 Academic Year: Six Tutors (two women) from Cameroon, DRC and Ethiopia.
