Marco Merkli obtained a diploma in theoretical physics from the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (Switzerland) and a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Toronto Canada). He was a postdoctoral fellow at ETH Zurich (Switzerland), the Centre de Recherches Mathématiques, McGill University and the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences (Canada). He is a University Research Professor of Mathematics at Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada. His research is in quantum theory. He is particularly interested in the study of open quantum systems, their dynamics, effective evolution equations, Markovian and non-Markovian approximations, decoherence, entanglement. Marco has taught courses on mathematical tools for quantum theory several times at AIMS Cameroon over the past few years.
