FIELDS MEDALIST AND PRESIDENT OF FRENCH PALIAMENTARY OFFICE FOR THE EVALUATION OF SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNOLOGICAL CHOICES, PROF CEDRIC VILLANI VISITS AIMS CAMEROON

Prof. Cedric Villani, 2010 Fields Medalist and Vice President of the French Parliamentary Office for the Evaluation of Scientific and Technological Choices, visited AIMS Cameroon on April 28-30, 2018. He attended the first meeting of AIMS Cameroon Advisory Board in Yaoundé and delivered two lectures in Limbe on “The Mathematics of Bats” and on “Mathematics and Art”.

Gracing the AIMS Cameroon Advisory Council where he played the role of ‘ACTING CHAIR’, The fields medalist applauded AIMS achievements and recommended the essence of getting an adapted facility and a broader cooperation North-south for AIMS.

Prof Cedric Villani, later moved to the AIMS Cameroon center where he delivered a 2-day talk to students on the topics, ‘The Mathematics of Bats’ and ‘Mathematics and Art’. These highly refreshing talks were accompanied by projected slideshows. These talks were dotted by a question and answer session whereby, students cleared their doubts and enriched themselves, thanks to the clear answers given by the mathematics icon.

When asked how he is able to combine being a top level mathematician and a member of parliament, he responded saying, ‘mathematics is an important tool for policy making and decision taking’.

The Mathematics guru did not part ways with AIMS Cameroons’ students without dropping a box containing a series of books and CD’S of prepared lectures on Mathematics to aid in the AIMS study process.  AIMS Cameroon and her students were extremely happy to have Prof. Cedric Villani as they rallied around him for numerous Souvenir Pictures.

Prof. Cedric Villani is highly applauded for his regular visits to AIMS Cameroon since its creation in 2013 where he delivers lectures and talks to local partner universities.
