The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences Teacher Training Program partook in the Open-Door day activities at Lycée Technique D’Obala on the 14th and 15th of March, 2019.
Hosted by the Mathematics stand, with AIMS TTP trained teachers as support, the AIMS TTP two-staffed team organized games under two themes that portrayed, Math is fun and Math is in everything we do.
The two-day event started with estimation games that had students either guessing the number of candies in a jar or racing to collect items on a table worth 25000frs CFA. This game tested their calculation skills emphasizing on the Addition and Subtraction concepts.
From this outdoor activity then came rushing other students in their magnitude to be part of the AIMS TTP activities.
Games like Sudoku, the Liars Game (Jeu des Menteurs) and the Visual logic puzzle games were played to test their logic which is a core part of Mathematical Sciences.
Other games played portrayed mathematical concepts like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, estimation, balancing of equations, etc.
A bonding session then ensued with career advice and the essence and importance of Mathematics to our everyday life and the careers they choose to embark on.
The event ended with the students expressing their satisfaction with the activities and requested a come-back.
This event marked the beginning of the AIMS TTP Cameroon public engagement activities which are expected to make a significant contribution to TTP-Cameroon achieving its overarching objectives of increasing achievement in mathematics amongst Cameroon secondary school students and improving the transition rates of the students (especially females) into STEM-oriented courses.
