On 25 June 2026, AIMS Cameroon celebrated the graduation of 62 Master’s students in Mathematical Sciences during a ceremony held at its permanent campus in Ngeme, Limbe. The ceremony marked the graduation of the 13th cohort of the Structured Master’s Programme and the 6th cohort of the Cooperative Master’s Programme, bringing together students, faculty, partners, government representatives, families, and members of the wider AIMS community.
The graduating cohort comprised 45 students from the Structured Master’s Programme and 17 students from the Cooperative Master’s Programme, representing 12 African countries. This year, 24% of the graduating class were women, reflecting AIMS Cameroon’s continued commitment to developing scientific talent from across the continent.
The graduation also marked an important institutional milestone as the first ceremony held at AIMS Cameroon’s permanent campus in Ngeme following the institute’s move to the new campus in August 2025. The event capped a landmark academic year in which student enrolment grew from 60 to 108, and saw the launch of a new programme in Mathematical Epidemiology.
Throughout their studies, students gained advanced knowledge in mathematical sciences and their real-world applications, conducting research in areas including artificial intelligence, climate science, and data science. The programme was delivered by an international faculty of lecturers and researchers, who equipped graduates with the analytical and problem-solving skills needed to address complex challenges across science, industry, and society. Through the cooperative masters internships, the students were able to apply this knowledge and skills across diverse fields and sectors, providing them the needed experience and grounding to progress into successful careers post graduation.
Of the 17 students enrolled in the cooperative masters programme, 10 secured employment opportunities through their industry placements before graduation. The programme also achieved a 100% internship completion rate and maintained employer satisfaction levels above 95%, underscoring its strong industry partnerships. Furthermore, through this cohort of cooperative masters students we successfully ran several pilots in enhancing the program particularly with the roll out of fully remote internships for the first time in the program and doubling alumni involvement in mentorship of the students.
This ceremony which now ushered this cohort into our growing alumni network, continued our tradition of recognised outstanding academic achievement, with distinctions and prizes awarded to exceptional students.
Since opening its doors in 2013, AIMS Cameroon has trained 618 graduates from 30 African countries. Many alumni have gone on to pursue careers in research, industry, entrepreneurship, and public service, contributing mathematical expertise to solving challenges across Africa and beyond.
As the graduates begin the next chapter of their academic and professional journeys, they join a growing network of AIMS alumni committed to advancing scientific excellence and developing innovative solutions for Africa and the world.
