In partnership with the International Association of Physics Students (IAPS), AIMS Cameroon actively took part in this year’s celebration of the International Day of Light on May 16th, under the theme, “Trust Science.” This day seeks to appreciate the role of light in science, culture, and art, education, and sustainable development. The day also marks the anniversary of the first successful operation of the Laser in 1960 by physicist and engineer Theodore Maiman.
The ceremony started with the arrival of students from two secondary schools: Saker Baptist College and GBHS Limbe at AIMS Cameroon.
The students were drilled on ‘The Physics of Light’ in fascinating concepts such as LASER and its applications, which was later accompanied by an experiment on “Transmission of Sound Using LASER.”
The secondary school students joined AIMS students to actively participate in a Kahoot game which consisted of Physics questions. The winning team was awarded a prize, and the event ended with an orientation session, where AIMS students shared their experiences with the high school students to motivate them to pursue Mathematical Science-related careers■
